PWD theological implications
Spirituality and Persons with “Disabilities”(PWD):Practical Theological Implications for Western Christian Communities Eric J Kyle The lived experiences of persons with disabilities necessarily challenges historical and contemporary understandings of western Christian spirituality. In this essay, the author reviews how the often marginalized societal and spiritual lives of persons with disabilities leads us to re-think how spirituality is both defined and embodied in western Christian communities. Based upon these explorations, suggestions are made as to how we might begin to re-image and re-embody our spirituality more broadly. For persons with“disabilities,” spirituality is experienced and expressed primarily through community, meaning, self-expression, and affirmation. Western Christian communities are therefore invited to practically embody such manifestations in their congregations.
